Bottas is looking to return to the F1 grid. Valtteri Bottas, who left Sauber and signed up with Mercedes as a reserve driver for the 2025 season, said he has a chance to become a main driver in Formula 1 again.
Sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward. I need to assess the prospects for two or three years ahead - which path to choose, which is the best way to return to the F1 grid.
But on the other hand, yes, this is the role of a reserve pilot. Often you just have to watch, but at the same time this is a great brand, a great automaker. I spent five years there and it can really open up some opportunities.
I think it might be hard and painful because I just want to race, but I think I can make a big contribution to the team because of my experience. Also, a newcomer [Andrea Kimi Antonelli] is joining and he needs help. I need to keep him busy, share my knowledge, " Bottas said.
The Finnish athlete answered a question about a potential move to a new F1 team in 2026-Cadillac:
Well, two more places will become available. The team needs riders, it needs experience. So, of course, this is a very, very interesting option.
Valtteri is not worried, Cadillac boss Graham Loudon is one of the managers of Bottas` ex-teammate Zhou Guanyu, who is also vying for the cockpit:
We have a good relationship with Graham. I don`t think that this will complicate the situation for me - rather, on the contrary, he sees what I am capable of and what I can bring to the team. I look at this as an opportunity.
Megacasting of racers for Cadillac is a real mystery: will they take a veteran, a newcomer or a star from the USA?
Who owns the F1 teams? Now there are 11 of them - including the US auto giant and the Qatari state fund, estimates have exceeded $1 billion
